Ariana

Ariana, the Mother

Ariana, often called The Mother or Goddess of the Arcane and Motherhood, is one of the eldest deities in the Faelorian pantheon. Born of Chronos, the Father of Time, Ariana shaped much of the world that came to be known as Faeloria. She is the creator of the Fae, the guardian of magic, and the embodiment of compassion, nurturing, and life itself.

Domain

  • Goddess of the Arcane
  • Goddess of Motherhood
  • Creator of the Fae
  • Patroness of Harmony, Protection, and Growth

Symbol

A rounded rectangular bar engraved on one side with fairy wings, and on the other with the left side of a great tree. In the center is a crown of roses and thorns — a reminder that creation is both beautiful and painful.

Appearance

Ariana is often depicted as a tall, radiant woman draped in flowing robes that shimmer like starlight on water. Her hair, said to reflect the hues of dawn, cascades in soft waves, and her eyes glow with the light of creation itself. Her presence brings warmth, calm, and quiet strength. In ancient murals and temple art, she is frequently shown surrounded by the first Fae — her children — dancing within her light.

Personality

Ariana is a benevolent yet firm goddess. Her love for her creations is boundless, but she does not shield them from the consequences of their choices. She values balance — both in magic and in life — and teaches that true strength is found in compassion and understanding. Though she opposes destruction and cruelty, Ariana understands that hardship is sometimes necessary for growth.

Origins

Ariana was born alongside her brother, Cryos, from Chronos — the eternal god of time. While Cryos turned his gaze toward the cold and stillness of death, Ariana looked to life and renewal. Together they maintained the balance of the cosmos, though their philosophies would eventually divide them.

When Chronos withdrew to observe the passing of time, Ariana began shaping her own realm: the Fae Wilds. There, she poured her divine essence into the land, creating the immortal Fae and imbuing the world with arcane energy. Her creations would forever carry a spark of her divine light — the gift of magic that now permeates Faeloria.

Relationships with Other Deities

  • Chronos – Her father and the eternal observer. Ariana honors him as the first creator and often seeks to maintain the temporal harmony he established.
  • Cryos – Her brother, and her eternal opposite. Their love and rivalry define much of Faeloria’s divine tension — life and death, warmth and cold, creation and decay.
  • Lucien – Her son, the God of Luck, whose whimsical nature mirrors her lighter side.
  • Eriana – Her daughter, the Goddess of Nature, who governs the living world Ariana helped to shape.
  • Alcor – A being created jointly by Ariana and her children, meant to guard both Fae and mortal realms against darkness. She wept when he fell, and his corruption remains one of her greatest sorrows.

Followers and Worship

Ariana’s faith is widespread throughout Faeloria, particularly in the kingdom of Avaria, where she is regarded as the primary divine matron.

Her temples are sanctuaries of light and peace — often built near sources of natural beauty or arcane energy, such as enchanted forests, crystal springs, or moonlit groves. Worshippers adorn her altars with white roses, silver water, and luminescent crystals.

Priestesses of Ariana are known as Mothers of Light, guiding both families and mages alike. They oversee childbirth, teach healing and arcane studies, and maintain balance between magic and mortal life.

Teachings

Ariana’s core teachings emphasize unity and balance:

  • Life is sacred; nurture it with love and purpose.
  • Magic is a gift — not a weapon — meant to sustain, not destroy.
  • Through compassion, strength is born.
  • Creation and destruction are both parts of the eternal cycle.

Influence in the Mortal World

Ariana’s magic is said to flow through every leyline, blessing Faeloria with its arcane essence. Many scholars believe all spellcasting originates from her divine breath — the “First Song” that gave life to magic itself.

In Avaria, her influence can be seen in:

  • The Luminary Gala — a festival celebrating her light and the triumph of creation.
  • The Twilight Grove — a sacred site where the veil between Faeloria and the Fae Wilds is thinnest, said to be a direct conduit to her realm.
  • The Fae Emissary — always chosen in Ariana’s name, acting as a living bridge between the mortal and Fae realms.

The Fae Wilds

Ariana’s divine realm, the Fae Wilds, mirrors Faeloria but glows with ethereal light. It is a place of endless creation — where forests bloom in starlight, rivers sing with ancient melodies, and time moves according to her will. The Wilds are home to her children, the Fae, who uphold her will and act as guardians of the natural and magical balance.

Modern Worship

In the current age (circa 530 TRA), Ariana’s presence remains strong. While her divine voice is rarely heard directly, her influence endures in every spark of magic, every act of kindness, and every heartbeat born anew. Her clergy teaches that Ariana does not answer prayers with words, but through the flourishing of life itself.

Quotes and Sayings

  • “From her breath came the stars; from her tears, the rivers.”
  • “All magic is her whisper, all love her light.”
  • “To harm creation is to wound the Mother.”
