Royal Guard

The Royal Guard, also known as the Avarian Royal Guard, is an elite subset of The Avarian Guard tasked specifically with the protection of the Avarian royal family and key locations within the kingdom. Its members guard the royal castle in Lumenara, strategic fortresses, and the monarch and their household. The Royal Guard is often present at state occasions—including the kingdom's Knighting Ceremony, where new knights pledge to uphold Avaria's values before the Guard and the people.

Role and duties

The Royal Guard exists to ensure the safety of the royal family and the security of the realm's most critical sites. They protect the Royal Castle and other key strongholds, accompany the monarch and dignitaries when required, and work in concert with the wider Avarian Guard. In Lumenara, the Royal Guard serves as the city's main defense force, supplemented by various knightly orders and magic users.

Leadership

The Royal Guard is led by a Captain and a Lieutenant, who hold authority over the unit within the broader structure of the Avarian Guard (under the Lord Commander and the monarch).

• Captain – Ser Rowan Meryndor, the current Captain of the Royal Guard, is described as courageous and charismatic. He commands the Guard and is responsible for its readiness and deployment.

• Lieutenant – Ser Thoren Valhart serves as Lieutenant and is known for his unwavering loyalty. He supports the Captain in leading and managing the Guard.

Recruitment and character

Members of the Royal Guard are drawn from the Avarian Guard and are chosen for their combat skill, judgment, and loyalty. They are often remarkable warriors who also possess sharp minds and the utmost devotion to the kingdom. Like the rest of the Avarian Guard, they are associated with the kingdom's iconic white armor, symbolizing their allegiance to Avaria and its crown.
