Order of Starfall

The Order of Starfall is an autonomous chivalric order of Avaria that administers Starfall Citadel, the northernmost bastion of the kingdom at the mountain pass leading into Dalr. The Order answers directly to the Crown of Lumenara and is sworn to guard Avaria from threats emerging across the northern expanse. Its knights are renowned for their resilience and dedication, and for holding the Starpass Trail—the principal overland route between the two kingdoms—through siege, winter, and repeated Dalrian campaigns.

Role and mandate

The Order exists to protect Starfall Citadel and the northern frontier. The citadel was built upon the site of the Starfall Event, a celestial cataclysm that left meteorite fragments in the mountainside; the Order maintains the fortress as both a military stronghold and a shrine to divine guardianship. It acts as a choke point for northern invasions and a beacon of stability for trade routes through the Starpass Trail. Dalr has long regarded the citadel as "the lost key to the south," and Dalrian historians record numerous failed attempts to seize it—the Order has held the pass through war and peace.

Structure

• Grand Marshal of the Star – Supreme commander of the Citadel and the Order.

• Starbound Sentinels – The knights of the Order. They undergo rigorous training in both martial and magical disciplines and are the backbone of the garrison.

• Lumin Wardens – Mage-knights who maintain the Citadel's celestial wards and project runic shields during attacks. They are integral to the fortress's legendary resistance to magic and siege.

• Ridge Sentinels – Scouts and rangers who patrol the Elysian Mountains foothills and the Starpass Trail, watching for incursions and safeguarding travellers and caravans.

Leadership

The current commander of Starfall Citadel is Ser Alaric Thandor, famed for holding the northern pass through three winters without relief. He leads the Order in its dual role as defender of the realm and guardian of the sacred site.

Traditions and identity

The Order is autonomous in its day-to-day administration but owes fealty to the Crown. Its members blend martial prowess with arcane discipline, reflecting the citadel's fusion of stone and starlight. The Phantom Knight—a spirit said to roam the ramparts, clad in ancient Avarian armour—is believed by many to be the ghost of a knight of the Order who fell defending the Citadel from a monstrous incursion. The Starfall Prophecy holds that when the stars once again fall upon Faeloria, the Citadel's walls will ignite with celestial flame and a new age of heroes will rise; the Order sees itself as the inheritor of that promise and the guardian of the threshold between north and south.
