Sunworld
(Also known as the Mortal Realm, Lightworld, Realm of Day)
Overview
The Sunworld is the primary material realm of Faeloria and the foundational layer of existence created by Chronos. It is the realm of mortality, change, growth, conflict, and divine struggle. All other layered realms resonate upon or respond to it.
The Sunworld is not merely a physical plane — it is the frontline of cosmic resistance, designed to absorb and confront external threats before they reach deeper metaphysical layers.
Cosmological Origin
Chronos, the Father and Creator of the Cosmos, shaped the Sunworld as the stage upon which time unfolds. Mortality was intentionally woven into its structure.
In the design of the cosmos:
- The Sunworld generates vitality.
- The Sunworld produces narrative.
- The Sunworld fuels divine and arcane resonance.
It is the realm where sequence, choice, and consequence carry the greatest weight.
Nature of the Sunworld
The Sunworld is characterized by:
- Finite lifespans
- Political and cultural evolution
- Divine faith structures
- Arcane experimentation
- Moral struggle
It is unstable by design.
Mortals burn bright and brief, and this intensity produces the energy that sustains the layered cosmology.
Border States
The Sunworld does not adjoin the other layered realms directly. Between the mortal realm and each of the others lies a border state — a threshold where one realm's nature shades into the next. The four border states are:
- Astral Plane — The border toward the Celestial vantage. Passage between the Celestial realm and the Sunworld is highly improbable. Alcor holds his vigil here; the Ascended (such as Natsuko) dwell in the Astral after apotheosis.
- Twilight — The border toward the Moonworld. Where the veil between mortal and Fae is thin; reflection and Fae magic bleed into the Sunworld.
- The Penumbra — The border toward the Umbral Veil. The half-shadow where echo and unrealized possibility press closest to mortal reality.
- Infernal Plane — The border toward the Underworld. Where souls that refuse resolution linger; the unquiet threshold before the Deep Quiet.
See The Realms of Faeloria for a full account of the layered cosmology.
Relationship to the Moonworld
The Sunworld and the Moonworld exist in interdependent resonance.
Where the Sunworld produces life, memory, and emotion,
the Moonworld reflects and stabilizes those energies.
If the Sunworld were extinguished:
- The Moonworld would slowly fade.
- Fae magic would weaken.
- The Veil between realms would destabilize.
Thus, in Ariana's layered design, the Sunworld acts as the first barrier against infernal and shadow incursions.
Divine Influence
The Sunworld is shaped by multiple divine forces:
- Chronos — Time and inevitability
- Ariana — Arcane resonance layered upon it
- Cryos — Underworld governance
- Alcor — Defense against existential threats
- Eriana — Life and decay cycles
Clerics and paladins primarily draw power from divine radiance manifest most strongly in the Sunworld.
Cultural Terminology
Mortals often refer to their realm as:
- The Lightworld
- The Realm of Day
- The First Flame
- The Living Realm
Among the Fae, it is commonly called:
- The Sunbound Realm
- The Burning Layer
