Overview

The Luminary Circle is a religious organisation in Avaria dedicated to the worship of Ariana, the Goddess of Arcane and Motherhood. They maintain the sacred site of Twilight Grove and offer spiritual guidance to the Avarian populace. The Circle is one of the kingdom's most influential religious bodies, closely tied to the Fae, the Moonworld, and the balance between mortal and arcane life.

Role in Avaria

Ariana is regarded as the primary divine matron of Avaria. Her faith is widespread, and the Luminary Circle serves as the principal organised face of that devotion. The Circle's priestesses—known in tradition as Mothers of Light—guide both families and mages alike. They oversee rites related to childbirth, teach healing and arcane studies, and help maintain balance between magic and mortal life. Spiritual guidance offered by the Circle extends from personal counsel to participation in kingdom-wide festivals such as the Luminary Gala (held during the longest night of the year, when thousands of lanterns are lit to symbolise the triumph of light over darkness) and Ariana's Embrace, which celebrates motherhood and honours the goddess with processions and gifts to the needy.

Twilight Grove

The Luminary Circle maintains and protects Twilight Grove, one of Avaria's most revered sacred sites. The Grove is a place where the veil between the mortal realm and the Moonworld is said to be thinnest—a direct conduit to Ariana's realm. Legends speak of a guardian spirit of the Grove: an ancient Fae of immense power who serves Ariana, said to appear as a great luminescent stag, watching over the sacred forest and ensuring peace between the mortal and Fae realms. The Circle's custodianship of the Grove reinforces their role as bridge-keepers between the human populace and the Fae, and pilgrims and seekers of blessing often travel to the Grove under the Circle's guidance.

Temples and Worship

Temples of Ariana under the Luminary Circle are sanctuaries of light and peace, often built near sources of natural beauty or arcane energy—enchanted forests, crystal springs, or moonlit groves. Worshippers adorn her altars with white roses, silver water, and luminescent crystals. The Circle's teachings emphasise Ariana's core tenets: that life is sacred and should be nurtured with love and purpose; that magic is a gift meant to sustain, not destroy; and that compassion gives birth to strength.

Relations with Other Organisations

The Luminary Circle works in concert with other Avarian bodies. The Conservators of Nature—a collective of druids and rangers devoted to preserving the natural beauty and balance of Avaria's landscapes, including the enchanted Everdawn Fields—often collaborate with the Circle where sacred sites and natural harmony overlap. The Circle's emphasis on balance and the sacredness of creation aligns with the kingdom's reverence for the Fae and for Eriana, Ariana's daughter and goddess of nature, whose shrines and temples are found throughout Avaria.
