Innate magic

From Faeloria

Innate magic

Innate magic (or sorcerous magic) in Faeloria is magical power that a caster is born with, rather than learned or granted by an external patron. Such casters channel power from within; they do not need to draw from the environment or a deity, though they may use focuses or items to shape or amplify their abilities. Innate magic is one of the four broad ways of channelling magic in the world.

Nature and attunement

Innate magic is often tied to one or a few types of effect. The most common expression is elemental-fire, water, earth, air, or related forces-though other affinities exist. The strength and scope of that attunement vary widely. Unlike learned casters, who draw on the ambient energies of the world, innate casters tap an internal well that replenishes with rest. Their casting can appear less formal and more intuitive, relying on instinct and raw power rather than precise incantation.

Origins

Bloodline
Magic runs in the family. Strong or ancient bloodlines are widely thought to produce the most powerful innate casters; noble houses and remote lineages sometimes guard or celebrate such heritage.
Conception or birth conditions
Exposure to powerful magical or celestial events at conception or birth can awaken innate power even in someone with no known magical bloodline. Such awakened casters are often seen as touched by fate or the divine.

Lore and legend

The most formidable innate users are sometimes rumoured to descend from elemental beings-elemental dragons, great elementals, or other primordial forces. Whether these tales are literally true or symbolic varies by culture and scholar. The connection to Ariana, goddess of arcane and motherhood, and to the Fae Realms is often invoked in stories of those whose power emerged under unusual celestial or planar conditions.

In society

Innate casters can be revered, feared, or both. Those from respected bloodlines may hold political or ceremonial roles; those whose power emerged from strange birth conditions may be treated as omens or outcasts depending on local belief. In Avaria, where Fae influence is strong, innate magic is often viewed as a reflection of the realm's deep connection to the Moonworld and to Ariana's legacy.
